Say farewell to my long time friend - BRAND

Today I went to NTUC Supermarket and wanted to buy the BRAND'S® Essence of Chicken with American Ginseng. I was frighten by the sudden selling price hike! - the price has been adjusted to S$19.50 ( Original price S$16.50 ).

It is sad to know that the price is marking too much up, despite the current fuel price and economy downturn.

What are the execuses will be given this time?!

Foreign Workers Should Stay Away From Singa-reans Society?

Mrs Rose Koh, 52, Administrative Manager, says worry about her childrens safety over ill intentions look-a-like's foreign workers.

Mrs L.S.Lim, 70, says she appreciates the contributions of foreign workers but suggests that they are be housed away from residential areas, in places like industrial estates.

Please give PRs a break!

Extracted from The Straits Times 06 Sep 2008

I have lived in Singapore for four years, working in a restructured hospital. I got my permanent residence(PR) status only after living here for eight months. I am bonded to the hospital for six years because it sponsored my education to be a radiographer in Australia, and for this I am grateful to employer. I got married in Australia at the end of my studies, and my husband and I moved to Singapore. Soon we started a family. My daugther is now nearly there. All there of us are Australia, and I am Malaysian.

Nearly half my colleagues are also PRs or work permit holders, or "Foreigners" for short. I guess my colleagues and I are "Foreign Workers" because we don't live in a condo and earn a five-digit salary. Those who do are called "Expatriates".

The purpose of this letter is to remind Singa-reans that middle-class "Foreign Workers" exist in this country. We are your nurses, bank executives, IT professionals and so on. We pay taxes, contributing CPF, and send our children to childcare. And when our male children turn 18, they are liable for national service.

So why are we always left out? We are not allowed to buy HDB flats because Singa-reans think we can afford condominium. Now some even say we shouldn't be allowed to buy resale flats because property prices are turning to be so high, due to PRs "wildfully" buying. So the rest of us have to rent HDB flats. Then you cut medical subsidies at polyclinics because citizens (Singa-reans) think that it is unfair that we get the same benefit as them. And from next year, there will be no childcare subsidies for PRs because citizens think that we shouldn't enjoy such benefits.

So why did I became a PR? I am thinking of staying in Singapore permanently. We feel more comfortable in an Asian country and Singapore has a lot to offer. But being from another country will always be a stigma. Most of us choose not to become citizens because we still have family in our home country and we still want to visit them regularly. We came to Singapore seeking a better life. We have a home here but we need to be reminded of our roots.

So Why are we penalised? Now that the childcare subsidy has been doubled, can't PRs get at least half the amount? We should be entitled to at least half the benefits a citizen gets. In Britain and Australia, PRs enjoy the same benefits as citizens, except the right of vote. If the Government doesn't want to hand out freebies to so many PRs, tighten the requirements to become a PR.

Singapore ERP Rates & Gantries Massive Hike

"Taking the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) scheme into the heartland will ease an expected islandwide traffic gridlock and make residential estates more liveable, Transport Minister Raymond Lim said yesterday.
Mr Lim said the money would go towards funding various government programmes for Singaporeans, including public transport and road projects."

Central Expressway (CTE) has been in traffic gridlock for years even though ERP were implemented, but never see any road expansion nor double-deck road is built. I can only see one more exit opened up at Pan-Island Expressway (PIE)which will cause more traffic gridlock soon.

On the other hand, I saw many government-funded new buildings emerged everywhere, eg. National Library(Bugis), HDB Hubs (Toa Payoh), SIR Building (Lavendar), Esplanade (Cityhall), etc.

I think we are somehow “funding” the maintenance fees for these luxurious buildings everyday.

If you said that Government encourages people to ride public transport,
but why didn’t the government returns the balance of unused COE cost if one decided to let go their car ownership?

Here, they allow to sell more cars; there, then engaging to set up more ERP gantries to collect more money.

Ultimately, it is a matter of their income (MONEY)!

Singapore attractions too pricey for families

By Daryl Tan, June 9, 2008. The Straits Times

THEY are the crown jewels of Singapore attractions, drawing thousands of visitors each day.
Yet parents say that high admission fees and miscellaneous charges at spots like the Night Safari or Singapore Flyer are pricing them beyond a regular family's reach.

A check of 10 main attractions here found that a day out would set a family of four back by $125 on average.

For example, an outing to the Underwater World or the Singapore Flyer, or taking a Duck Tour will cost a typical family between $127 and $164.

Topping the list is the Singapore Night Safari. Taking into account a meal and souvenirs, a trip there could burn a $230-hole in the pocket.

Spokesmen for the attractions said that the quality of the experience and cost of upkeep justify the pricing.

Ms Isabel Cheng, a spokesman for the Singapore Zoo, Jurong BirdPark and Night Safari, said that admission rates are 'relatively low' compared to similar attractions in Australia and the United States, and that the experience one gets is worth the money.

Singapore Underwater World, for example, said it will be offering tickets to its Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon at a 30 per cent discount until June 22.

The Singapore Discovery Centre and Escape Theme Park are also offering discounted packages for families.

*********************************************************************************
My Conclusion:

(1) Singa-rean love to do comparison with those well-developed modern countries when talk about the cost of living(money), but they forgot(refuse) to evaluate these well-developed countries' people are actually drawing much higher salary than us here.

(2) These attractions are ONLY welcoming local families DURING school holiday.

China boycotts Sharon Stone films after star blames earthquake on bad karma for Tibet

Film star Sharon Stone has set off a storm of fury across China after she suggested the deadly earthquake that killed as many as 80,000 people was bad karma for Beijing policy in Tibet.

“I’m not happy about the way that the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else,” [Sharon Stone] told reporters at Cannes. “And so I have been very concerned about how to think and what to do because I don’t like that.” She said she’s also been wondering how the United States should handle the Olympics because China is “not being nice to the Dalai Lama, who’s a good friend of mine.” When the earthquake hit, Stone wondered if it was a case of what goes around, comes around. “Then all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, is that karma? When you’re not nice, that the bad things happen to you?” said the 50-year-old star.

Several Chinese cinemas have pledged not to screen her movies and the Internet has exploded in a stream of angry comments.

It's pretty ironic how she's faking her sympathy for Tibetans when a lot of Sichuan residents are Tibetans as well.

I wonder what 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina was to the USA?

Ask The Girl Next Door

Came across a funny Singa-rean's Q & A from a magazine...

Q: After 5 years of marriage and 2 lovely kids, my wife and I have become total homebodies. My wife doesn't even put on makeup anymore. How do I re-ignite the spark in our relationship?

A: It's completely understandable that in the day-to-day zoo of bills, tuition classes, and nagging aunties, our personal needs usually fall to the bottom of the priority list. I say, start off with a bang. One weekend, tell your wife that you're taking her out on the town. Present her with a gift certificate to a department store (if she doesn't already have your credit cards!) and tell her she has one hour to buy a new outfit - after which you're whisking her off to get her hair done at a nearby salon. While she's still in shock, present her with a voucher from someone she trusts, like your mother or her sister, to baby-sit for that night. Let her feel gorgeous in her new dress and 'do, and enjoy a romantic dinner out, just the two of you. To make sure this isn't a one-off event, strike a deal with one of the many relatives you're always visiting: one Saturday a month, they watch your kids for the night while you and your wife go on a date - and you return the favour the next saturday.

Singa-rean bring dog into food court

Photo taken from www.stomp.com.sg and happened @ Simei Food Court.
Someone approached them and asked them kindly to refrain from bringing the dog into the foodcourt and was immediately told off by one of the girls.
Most Singa-rean feedback to this event and defend that household pets are hygenic; who afraid, please step aside;pets are healthier than smokers, tolerance towards pets..etc
Most Singa-rean love animal and love to bring their pets out for a walk or food. Some even baby-sit their dog in a pram for outing! (wow..better treat than their own children(Human)). I even saw before Singa-rean feed their lovely dog by using spoon at AMK food court!
However,Pet Owner should consider those who may be allergic to animal fur or be sensitive to their presence there.
I want to ask too, the food court is built and selling foods to human or animal?
Do you willing to be "pet" by Animal one day if you are really a animal lover?
Human and Animal are not equal, no matter how thing goes!

NETS "eat" our Cash Card's deposit from 1 May onwards

Another profit-oriented company (after Eazlink Card company) in "Singa" Island trying very hard to look for other $$$$ sources to increase their company profit! without bothering to invest and improve their customer services.
Again..reasons given are production cost increased; to prevent multiple cards per one user which lead to resources wasted....etc
Lets check with our other neighbour countries eg. HK or Taiwan, their card's deposit are fully refundable whenever we surrender the card.
HK's cost of living is much higher than "Singa" island, their production cost must be higher too.
They can make profit, but why not these companies? hmm..something "wrong"...
